Drew Dennis wins Silver Medal at National SkillsUSA Masonry Competition
Drew won the right to represent North Carolina in the masonry National SkillsUSA after winning the state competition this past April. Drew and his instructor, Mr. Tim Kidd, traveled to Kansas City, Missouri in June. There, he competed against the nation's top high school masonry students. There were a total of 40 contestants bidding for the top honor including a representative from Puerto Rico.
This was a 6 hour project, graded in 10 different categories with multiple areas to be judged in each category. Drew built an exceptionally good project but fell a few points behind the first place finisher. Out of a possible 1000 points Drew scored a 942.
Drew is currently a senior here at West Stanly. He will have the opportunity to compete again in 2012, provided he can once again finish in the top of the masonry competition at the North Carolina contest.
